Nikki Beckett could only watch as her boyfriend, Jack, sacrificed himself to save her, taking her place in the Tunnels of the Everneath for eternity — a debt that should’ve been hers. She’s living a borrowed life, and she doesn’t know what to do with the guilt. And every night Jack appears in her dreams, lost and confused and wasting away.
Desperate for answers, Nikki turns to Cole, the immortal bad boy who wants to make her his queen — and the one person least likely to help. But his heart has been touched by everything about Nikki, and he agrees to assist her in the only way he can: by taking her to the Everneath himself.
Nikki and Cole descend into the Everneath, only to discover that their journey will be more difficult than they’d anticipated — and more deadly. But Nikki vows to stop at nothing to save Jack — even if it means making an incredible sacrifice of her own.
EVERBOUND, The sequel to EVERNEATH had a lot more action it then the first book. In it, Cole and Nikki travel to the Everneath itself to rescue Jack from the Tunnels. It was a thrilling ride and it had a lot heart-racing scenes that left me breathless.
I felt like I finally got a glimpse into Cole’s heart. The whole reason he’s accompanying Nikki is because he loves her. Even though he knows he’ll lose her to Jack, he’s doing this because he loves her. I thought that was very noble of him.
Usually what happens in second books is the love triangle gets amped up a notch. This book was a little different. While Cole shows his better side, Jack is completely absent. He only appears in flashbacks when Nikki relates her memories of him. Nikki remained steadfast in her goal to save Jack and Cole had a hard time competing with her memories.
The twist at the end of the book was a complete surprise for me. Part of it didn’t really make sense, but it left me gasping and aching for the next book. All I can do is crawl the walls until it’s release!
